Jacques van Wyk founded J&A Bouers in 1984 and moved the business to Mossel Bay in 2005. Today he runs it together with his son, Wiehann, and both are closely involved in every project, from the first site visit to the day the keys are handed over.
They have very different strengths and skills, and make a point of using all of them. Combined with a well-organised system for running each job, it means every project is looked at from every angle and nothing is left to chance.
Behind them is a team of specialist tradespeople, some of whom have worked with J&A Bouers for 15 years. They take real pride in their work, and for them there is no better part of the job than handing over a finished home they are proud of to a client who is happy with it.

We aim to visit within 48 hours to look at your plot or existing home, take measurements and agree exactly what you want done.

Detailed Written Quotation
You receive a clear, written quotation, usually within 3 to 5 working days, or 5 to 7 for new homes and larger restorations. Once you accept and sign it, we schedule your start date.

Plans and Approvals
Need plans? We work closely with trusted architects and draftsmen and will recommend the right one for your project. Already have approved plans? We build from them.

Managed on Site, Every Day
Jacques or Wiehann is on site daily, with a team of specialist tradespeople, some of whom have worked with us for 15 years. The site is secured and tidied at the end of every day, and you receive regular WhatsApp photo and video updates.

Clean Handover
We finish with a professional deep clean inside and out, and electrical and plumbing work comes with the required certificates of compliance.

Work done: New bathroom added to main bedroom in a very small space, new window added, added to existing paving, painted outside of complete house, roof fixed & sealed.
The very 1st thing that I was impressed with is the way the quote is set out. Easy to understand & even include allowances for all the stuff that is needed (tiles, taps, ect). This is so helpful to determine the complete cost of the project.
Reliable - on time every day, no guessing if & when they are coming;
Respectful - all the people treated us with such respect, even taking care in cleaning their shoes before entering the house;
Excellent craftmanship - every person/team is a specialist in their respective areas (building, plastering, tiling, painting).
Attention to detail - grout lines lining up in different areas, tiles cut so that the left & right on a wall looks the same, finishing off.
They even cleaned the area at the end of the day where they worked!
Jacques & Wiehann gave advice when I wasn't sure about something.
And their quote was by far the best price wise compared to others.

How do I get a quote?

How long does it take to receive a quotation?
Usually 3 to 5 working days after the site visit. New homes and larger restorations take a little longer, typically 5 to 7 working days, because the quotation is more detailed.
Can you help with building plans and approvals?
Yes. We work closely with architects and draftsmen we trust, and will advise who is best suited to your project, as not every job needs an architect. If you already have approved plans, we build from those.
Who will be on site during my project?
Jacques or Wiehann manages the site personally every day, together with specialist bricklayers, plasterers, tilers, painters, carpenters, plumbers and electricians, some of whom have worked with us for 15 years.
Will I be kept up to date while the work is underway?
Yes. We send WhatsApp photos, videos or calls, daily or weekly depending on your preference and the size of the job, and you can reach us directly at any time.
How do payments work?
Payment terms are set out clearly in your quotation. Larger projects are usually paid as a deposit followed by progress payments at agreed stages. Smaller jobs are usually a 40 to 50% deposit with the balance on completion. Terms can vary where a job requires significant materials or upfront costs.
What happens if something needs attention after handover?
Every project includes a 30-day snag period after handover. If you notice anything wrong with our work, let us know and we will come back and put it right. This excludes damage caused by third parties or misuse.
How long will my project take?
Every project is different, so we don't give general estimates. Once we've seen the site and agreed on the scope, we can discuss a realistic timeframe for your specific project.
Do you use registered electricians and plumbers?
Yes. Electrical and plumbing work is done by registered tradespeople and comes with the required certificates of compliance.
Are you NHBRC registered?
Yes. J&A Bouers is an NHBRC-registered home builder (registration number 1-156872071), building since 1984 and based in Mossel Bay since 2005.
Which areas do you work in?
Mossel Bay and the surrounding Garden Route, including Hartenbos, Dana Bay, Diaz Beach, Tergniet, Reebok, Groot-Brakrivier, Klein-Brakrivier, Fraaiuitsig, Bayview. We also take on larger projects further afield, including George.
